National Hampton Alumni Association, Inc
May 2020
Dearest alumni-
My hopes and prayers are this email finds you and your loved ones safe and well during these challenging and unprecedented times.
One of the pillars of my National Hampton Alumni Association strategy is to provide all Hampton alumni with more opportunities to get together for fellowship. In addition, fundraising is a focus for our Board, and we are proud of efforts like the NHAA, Inc. Student Emergency Fund, we debuted in September 2019.
To live into the focus areas listed above, we had a few different NHAA, Inc. events planned in 2020. Below is an update on those events due to the impacts of COVID-19:
- The “NHAA Goes Home” trip to Africa this December has been cancelled. Those who have paid towards the trip will receive a full refund.
- Our inaugural Legacy Gala, which was to be held in New York City, has been postponed. A new date will be communicated before year-end.
- While the in-person 2020 NHAA, Inc. Biennial, which was to be held in Wilmington, Delaware, has been cancelled, we are looking into a virtual option for our Biennial. Please keep an eye out for more information.
While these were very difficult decisions and it may be disappointing, our first priority is the safety and well-being of our Hampton alumni family and your loved ones.
Finally, I’d like to take a moment to say THANK YOU to the hundreds of alumni and friends who attended the virtual homecoming event we hosted in April, featuring three of our most illustrious alumni DJs – DJ Mistanice, DJ Precise and DJ Babey Drew! Because of your generosity and commitment to our dear home by the sea, we collectively raised over $12,000. These donations will be earmarked for the NHAA Student Emergency Fund and will benefit a Hampton student in financial jeopardy.
Our NHAA, Inc. Board is getting creative and working around shelter in place orders to keep our alumni connected. Please stay tuned for more information on our efforts!
I am so honored to lead this amazing alumni association! There are so many essential workers within our Hampton family and on behalf of all alumni, we thank you so much for what you are doing every day to keep our nation safe.
With all my Hampton love,
Gena Pemberton ’98
NHAA President
